Mary Wilson & Freda Payne

Mary Wilson of the Supremes is best known for being a founding member of the Motown Female Singing Trio. Freda Payne sold a million copies of her 1970 hit “Band of Gold”.  These two super-stars come together to do a tribute to two of the biggest legends in American music, Lena Horne and Ella Fitzgerald.Some of the songs in this music concert include Mr. Paganini, Mack the Knife, Someone To Watch Over Me, Lady Is a Tramp, They Can’t take that Away from Me, Stormy Weather, Honeysuckle Rose, and more.


An accomplished singer and actress, Freda’s career like some of her peer’s has spanned over forty five years. Her Broadway   credits include Hallelujah Baby, Lost In the Stars, Sophisticated Ladies, Jellies Last Jam, The Blues in the Night, and Ain’t Misbehavin’. Freda has movie credits that include Eddie Murphy’s Nutty Professor The Klumps, Rhapsody, The Book of Numbers, Rag Doll, and more. Her recording career date’s back to her first LP that was on the Impulse label After The Lights Go Down Low  with as many as eighteen LP’s recorded. The most out standing was her 1970 release  Band Of Gold that won her first gold record. That was followed by the second gold hit,  Bring The Boy’s Home.  Her popularity in the UK is well known. Band of Gold has remained a favorite there since the seventies. She recently toured with Sir Cliff Richard  playing major arena’s in the UK.It was called the Soulicious Tour.  Freda  has worked with Quincy Jones doing the Montreux Jazz festival and the We Are the World  Haiti relief project.  American Idol featured Freda in 2009 as one of the disco pop Icons. Her jazz pipes are superb and she has been performing in theatre’s and clubs doing A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald for the last twelve years. She continues to record jazz as she recently landed a deal with  Mack Ave. record’s. That CD will be released sometime towards the end of the year. It was produced with Bill Cunliffe and recorded at Capitol records in Hollywood studio A.As a veteran in the business she continues to spread love, healing, and joy with her beauty and her voice.


Ms. Wilson has spread the Supremes’ legacy on the world stage to international museums with a touring exhibit entitled, “The Story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson Gown Collection,” featuring their show-stopping gowns and coveted memorabilia. The gowns were on exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and will be touring The United Kingdom before going on to Europe for another two years.Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the Supremes when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1994, the Supremes received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 1998, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

Ms. Wilson has toured the globe as a performer and continues to travel as advocate on behalf of social and civic issues. As a Supreme, she performed for Britain’s Queen Mother and the future King of Sweden and other international audiences. However, Ms. Wilson’s global stature grew after former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell named her one of nine cultural ambassadors in 2003.

In November 2004, she was one of the featured performers to headline the United Nations’ “World AIDS Day” concert at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City. She later returned to the United Nations Building to lecture about the poverty, hunger and destruction she witnessed during her trips.   Mary Wilson is pleased to join James Gavin to pay tribute to an outstanding American icon, Lena Horne.
