Bruce Wood Dance is a dynamic, compelling contemporary dance company that harnesses the power of dance to entertain, enrich, and heal. Described as “emotionally charged and highly kinetic” by ArtandSeek.org, BWD is built on the vision and prolific output of acclaimed Texan choreographer Bruce Wood® (1960-2014). Wood founded Dallas-based BWD in 2010 and had previously directed the Fort Worth-based Bruce Wood Dance Company from 1996-2007 to national acclaim. Between 1996-2014, Wood created more than 80 acclaimed works until his unexpected death in 2014. His choreography has been acclaimed for its imagery, musicality, versatility, and emotional impact.
Artistic director Joy Bollinger successfully carries on Wood’s legacy. BWD is known for its artistic excellence, high caliber productions, new commissions, and humanistic repertoire. Since 2015 BWD has commissioned 15 works by award-winning internationally acclaimed choreographers and resident Texan dance-makers. BWD boosts new works by 2017 Princess Grace and 2019 Jacob’s Pillow Fellow Bryan Arias, 2017 Bessie-nominated Katarzyna Skarpetowska, sought-after cutting edge artists Yin Yue and Garrett Smith. BWD has garnered many accolades including Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019; Best of Dallas Voice 2014-2018; and inclusion on TheaterJones.com and dallasnews.com Top Ten list since 2011. BWD has been named Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019.
